Case Study Manufacturing · Product configuration

Complex glass. Valid configuration. Instant quote.

An insulating and architectural glass manufacturer needed one system for thousands of valid product combinations. Over a fourteen-year relationship, Costel took the platform from a single-computer desktop tool to a factory-wide web application, dealer self-service and a modern rebuild that connects quotation directly to ERP and machinery.

A quote could take tens of minutes or several hours.

Architectural glass pricing depends on far more than width and height: glass types, treatments, grinding, drilling, cut-outs, structural parts, accessories, dimensional limits and customer-specific prices all interact.

Some choices make later options mandatory; others make them impossible. Before those rules lived in software, every quote depended on specialist knowledge and every manual selection created another chance for error.

The platform grew from one desktop into the factory's operating layer.

The first Visual Basic application centralized insulating-glass orders on one computer. Three years later, a PHP and MySQL web platform made the same information available across production, administration, sales and management.

When the company expanded into architectural glass, Costel added a rule-driven configurator. A user enters dimensions, and the platform filters compatible materials, operations and accessories while applying processing costs, discounts and negotiated prices.

One configuration, end to end

  • Approved quotes convert directly into production orders
  • PDF offers include prices, images and technical drawings
  • ERP, accounting, invoices and payments remain synchronized
  • LiSEC exports feed insulating-glass machinery
  • DXF output carries geometry, drilling and cutting into CNC workflows

Product rules, quotation management and production restrictions live in the same platform.

Engineering note

The configured product is the source of truth. If quotation, ERP and CNC each rebuild the same rules independently, they eventually disagree. Keeping one validated configuration through every step ensures that what is priced is exactly what reaches production.

Costel Project partner · the build

Dealers quote in seconds, and the factory builds from the same configuration.

Roughly twenty internal users and more than thirty dealers now work from the same validated product rules.

A calculation that once took tens of minutes or hours is generated in minutes or seconds. Dealers can quote independently, produce branded PDFs and turn accepted offers into orders without the factory re-entering the product.

After eleven years in production, the original web application was rebuilt in 2026 with Laravel and Vue.js. The continuity is the result: each generation stayed useful because it evolved with the products, machinery and teams around it.
